Outreach

Outreach Support

The Outreach service provides 1:1 support for parents in the community. This can be in the form of practical or emotional support. The Outreach Worker will find out what you would like support with and will work with you to agree a plan. This will support you and the Outreach Worker to work towards your needs and goals. The Outreach Worker may:

  • Provide information and support to access services available in the area

  • Refer to groups running in First Step

  • Accompany you to groups and appointments that you may find difficult to access alone

  • Support you as you deal with issues which affect your day to day life

  • Listen

  • Act as an advocate for you, should you need them to

Outreach Service and Covid-19 Restrictions

We endeavour to keep up-to-date with any guidance that is issued by the Scottish Government, and continue to work with the safety of service users and staff at all times. Where it is not possible to conduct visits at home we will aim to meet outdoors and will make use of online technology and telephone calls to keep in touch with you.

Who can use the Outreach Service?

Any parent of a child aged 0-8 years (or parent-to-be) who lives in the Musselburgh, Whitecraig, Wallyford and Newcraighall areas can access the service.

Who can make a referral?

Any professional, family member or service user can make a referral. We are happy to take self-referrals and the referral form can be found on this page.

First Step Community Project Membership

The Outreach Service is free and accessible to those who need it and meet the referral criteria. We do not ask recipients of the Outreach Service to pay a membership fee, however we would encourage them to do so should they wish to use other services at First Step.

Confidentiality and the Outreach Service

First Step works under the duty of confidentiality and the work we undertake is based on trust and respect. There are times when we may need to break confidentiality when we have a Duty of Care to a vulnerable adult or child. For more information please see the policies below:
